Marine Aquaculture Research Internship – Spring/Summer 2012

Mote Marine Laboratory’s Marine & Freshwater Aquaculture Research Program gives interns the opportunity to learn about all aspects of marine finfish aquaculture in a state-of-the-art facility. Research focuses on developing new protocols and techniques to improve the production of high-value marine fish in zero-discharge environment friendly recirculating systems. Current research involves four different species: common snook, Florida pompano, red drum and amberjack. Interns will be involved in all daily farm activities including but not limited to feeding, system maintenance and animal husbandry with a focus on live feed culture and larval rearing research.

The marine aquaculture internship is located at The Mote Aquaculture Park in Sarasota, Florida. Interns should be able to work in an outdoor environment and be available from 8:00 to 5:00 pm five days a week including possible weekends. Longer hours may be required during special sampling activities and for field work. Internships are unpaid and interns must have their own transportation.
